Baby Whose Mother Died Of Coronavirus Just Six Days After His Birth Is Finally Allowed To Go Home


The baby whose mother, died of coronavirus a few days after she gave birth to him, was allowed to stay with his family.

Just days after giving birth, Fozia Hanif died of coronavirus, without ever being able to hold her newborn son.

She began experiencing symptoms and tested positive for the disease shortly before her 29th birthday, which resulted in premature birth of her son, Ayaan.

Just six days after giving birth to a son her family was given the devastating news she would not recover and the ventilator was turned off.

Today Fozia’s cousin Zilley Khan  took twitter to announce the news that Ayaan, had returned home and he is ‘healthy and happy.’

‘I just wanted to share with you all of our wonderful news. My cousin, who died with covid a month ago at the age of 29, delivered her baby at 31 weeks. Well baby Ayaan is alive, safe and happy baby MahShaAllah’s home today.’ Ms Khan said in a tweet.

She further added that, ‘Indeed this news has helped us forget our grief and we will remember our lovely cousin Fozia xx via baby Ayaan.’

A nurse from the ICU in Heartlands responded to the post, ‘We were all saddened when your cousin died – there is a lovely rainbow out of the storm.’

Her infant son was shown to the probation service officer through a photograph printed for her by nurses at the Birmingham Heartlands hospital, with her family describing it as a “positive” moment.

Her husband Wajid said, “She was holding up the photograph and saying ‘look it’s our baby’ and ‘we’ll be going home early’ … that’s the last time I’ve talked to her.

” Sophie Hanif, her sister, said she’d get messages telling her how happy she was to actually meet her son.”

During her pregnancy, when she developed a mild fever in March and hospital workers wanted to hold her in for tests, Hanif had been going to hospital for check-ups. She screened positively for coronavirus but was released home early and could spend her birthday with her family.

However, her health started to decline rapidly, and she was rushed back to hospital, segregated from her family and placed on a ventilator.

Her husband and father, Nabil, were permitted to meet her after wearing personal protective equipment ( PPE) however, she developed blood clots and was in a coma. Later the family was informed that she was recovering and that they would take her to the recovery ward.

But the family was told that the ventilator was being turned off and Hanif died on 8 April, six days after her son Ayaan was born. Although Ayaan has tested negative and now he was allowed to go home.
