Attorney General William Barr has expressed that he considers resigning if President Donald Trump continues to interfere with Justice Department matters.
He is particularly referring to Trump’s public comments made via Twitter about sensitive investigations.
DOJ Spokeswoman Kerri Kupe denied the rumors, as she states, “Addressing Beltway rumors: The Attorney General has no plans to resign.”
The spokeswoman’s comment was made a few hours after The Washington Post reported that three officials from the Trump administration told them of Barr’s intentions.
They continued that the Attorney General had told people close to him about his potential plans, as he is reaching his limits and is fed up by Trump’s actions recently.
The report comes when tensions between Barr and Trump has become apparent, as the former aired his frustrations about how the President’s tweets makes it impossible for him to do his job properly.
“I cannot do my job here at the department with a constant background commentary that undercuts me,” Barr said in an interview.
“To have public statements and tweets made about the department, about people in the department, our men and women here, about cases pending in the department and about judges before whom we have cases, make it impossible for me to do my job and to assure the courts and the prosecutors in the department that we’re doing our work with integrity.point 408 |

However, Trump ignored Barr’s request and pointed out that it is his legal right to intervene in criminal cases, as he continued to tweet about various DOJ cases including that of his confidante Roger Stone.
Trump posted on Tuesday that Stone deserved a new trial and quoted a Fox News contributor who called on Judge Amy Berman Jackson, the judge assigned in Stone’s case, and ordered a new trial.
This move have angered the Attorney General, and Trump did acknowledge that his tweets make Barr’s job harder.
