President Joe Biden is openly showing support for the transgender American community by acknowledging them during his address to Congress recently.
The President was very bold and open regarding his support for the young and brave trans community in the US, explaining how he will always have their back, no matter what. The news was definitely shocking to many as this has never been done by any president in the past.
The comments came on April 28th during the president’s historic address to the Congress where he was flanked by vice president Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nanci Pelosi.point 266 |
His wife and the first lady of the US, Dr.point 33 | Jill Biden, was also present in the nearly empty audience as most of the others watched virtually due to the restrictions placed, keeping the pandemic in mind.point 166 | 1
“To the entire transgender Americans that are currently watching me at home, especially to all the young individuals who are ever so brave, I want you to know that your president has your back,” Biden explained.
The new comments came as a part of the campaign for the Senate to work towards the passing of the Equality Act, which has already successfully made its way through the House of Democrats in the month of February of this year.
This new bill would actually extend the rights while providing civil protections to help ban all forms of discrimination that are based upon sexual orientation or even the topic surrounding gender identity.
Since the bill is only supported by a very narrow majority, many critics believe that the chances are low of it being passed by the House of Senate. However, President Biden has been motivating lawmakers to help in the bill’s passing and these comments were another proof of this very notion.
Ever since the president’s comments were released, the LGBTQ community has praised him for doing what no leader has ever done. They even went forward towards calling it a milestone too.
