According to media reports, Trump’s order diverted Pentagon’s cash towards funding the country’s southern border wall. In the same way, Biden has already paused the construction for the US-Mexico border, on the first day of his joining. And that sent out a clear message to the nation. Therefore, this announcement was just a formality.

In the president’s letter, Biden talked about how Trump’s emergency orders were totally uncalled for. Moreover, he issued an order that no more money from tax paying citizens would be used for border wall construction.

Biden also made sure to review all of the funds spent over the project so far.

Trump used to use the emergency declaration order as an effective means for immediate issuance of massive amounts of money, in fact, billions, from the government’s funds that were strictly allocated for the Defense Department.

The ex-president made claims that there was a major emergency at the southern US border due to reasons relating to drug trafficking as well as violence, illegal crossings, and human trafficking too.

For decades, the US is renowned for creating so many border walls. This is under both the Democratic as well Republican administrations. Donald Trump made due efforts of highlighting the emergency situation, just so he could cover the entire southern Mexico wall, while ‘somehow’ getting Mexico to pay for it too.

The ex-president also took away about $6 billion from the country’s military funds, under the same national emergency policy. This was right after Congress rejected his offer for the wall’s funding.

Meanwhile, by the end of Trump’s administration, the country had already finished around 450 miles of the new wall, over the 2000 mile long border stretch. Now, it will be interesting to see what role Biden plays in the wall as he has temporarily halted its construction.
