Two German Shepherds attacked a two-year-old boy by while his parents celebrate his birthday, and is now fighting for his life.
The boy, identified as Yegor, was found lying unconscious outside his house in a small town of Selydove, eastern Ukraine after the dogs mutilated him.
According to reports, the toddler walked outside unnoticed while his parents sit at a festival table with their guests on Friday.
It was assumed that Yegor wandered around the courtyard, where the dogs, which broke out of their enclosure, attacked him.
The parents went to search for the boy after noticing his absence, and they found him still being torn apart by the dogs.
“The boy was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood,” said charity volunteer Aleksandra Timoshchenkova, who assists the family in collecting donations for the boy’s treatment.
Reports say that Yegor’s father failed to close the dog’s enclosure securely, resulting in the dogs escaping and attacking the boy.
The dogs managed to rip off the boy’s genitals, anus, and tore a femoral artery on his left leg.
Due to the severity of the boy’s injuries, he was moved by a military helicopter to be admitted to Dnipro Regional Children’s Hospital.
Four crews of surgeons were assigned to Yegor’s case, and the boy is now fighting for his life.
The medics managed to restore his damaged blood vessels, bladder and intestines, but removed tissues that the dogs had chewed.
“The boy suffered extremely severe injuries known as dirty wounds,” said hospital head Natalia Dementyeva.
“He is receiving powerful antibacterial therapy but we are expecting the development of inflammatory processes that are usual complications in such cases.”
Yegor’s parents are now facing a criminal charge launched by the police for failure to fulfill parental duties resulted in severe consequences.
“The boy’s parents are being interrogated. Forensic examinations are underway,” said police spokesperson Aleksandra Gavrilko.
If proven guilty, the parents may face up to three years in prison.
