The heartbreaking California wildfires have destroyed more than 7,050 acres of land.
This area is just 40 miles outside of Palm Springs. According to reports, fireworks from a gender reveal party sparked the massive blaze. And now the family responsible could possibly face jail time with fines reaching multi-million dollars.
Amid the scorching heatwave that gripped the state, temperatures reached up to 121 degrees. And that turned California into a giant tinder box. California Department’s Forestry and Fire Protection Unit explained how a smoke generating device led to the event.
These same devices are commonly used to generate colorful flames like blue or pink. And these are observed during gender reveal parties for an expecting baby.
Reports confirmed how the fire suddenly began on a Saturday, around 10:23 am. Currently, around 527 people as well as 10 fire crews are trying their best to control the blaze’s progress.
The fire initially picked up pace from El Dorado Ranch’s Park, just north of Yucaipa Ridge. This ridge is responsible for separating both Mountain Home Village as well as Forest Falls in the Yucaipa City.
One spokesperson for the department also confirmed how the family hosting the event were still present at the scene from the start. And that’s when firefighters initially arrived. Reports also suggested how surveillance cameras that were installed at the park, clearly showed the family’s presence.
The same spokesperson for the event claimed that it was a small event, where relatives gathered together for photo opportunities.
Today, the family is at risk for jail time as well as fines surmounting to over several million dollars. This includes civil costs, relating to fire engines, helicopters, and planes.
When media officials asked about whether or not the family understood the seriousness of their actions, the spokesperson confirmed the news. Although he did reiterate how it was a genuine mistake.
