Lamar Davis was sitting in the car when a maroon SUV pulled up in front of their car and fired several rounds from a .45-caliber handgun.

His father was on the phone during the incident, and was unharmed.

“He was just sitting there in the car and someone shot him,” said the boy’s mother, Melissa Robinson.

“Kids can’t go outside, they can’t do anything.”

Lamar was taken to Stroger Hospital, and was found to have been hit in the back, lower backside, hip and leg.

“I freaked out and rushed to the hospital,” said Robinson, who found about the attack from the friend with the school supplies.

“He’s a strong baby.”

The seventh grader was released from the hospital the next day, but will return next week for a follow up check-up.

“Everybody just needs to think about what’s going on in the world and try not to harm others,” said Robinson.

“I am just grateful he is OK.”

To get closer to his extended family, Lamar recently moved back to Chicago after living with his mother in Bloomington, Indiana since he was two.

The boy was able to talk to his mother at the hospital, and said that he does not know anyone who could possibly cause him harm.

Investigators said that they are in the process of reviewing surveillance tapes from nearby homes and school, and had so far not made any arrests.

The maroon SUV in question was spotted speeding off after the shooting, but no one has spotted the driver and the gunman.
