Pharmaceutical distributor AvKare announced Wednesday that are voluntarily recalling 100mg sildenafil tablets and 100mg trazodone tablets after a “product mix-up.
”
According to their statement, a third party vendor had “inadvertently packaged together” the tablets when they were being bottled.
Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra, a PDE-5 inhibitor, which is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and is packaged in 100 count bottles.
Unintentional intake of the drug may cause serious health risks for those with underlying health issues.
For example, sildenafil may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, which will lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.
Meanwhile, Trazodone is used to treat major depressive disorder, packaged in 1000 count bottles.
Unintentional consumption may lead to sedation, dizziness, constipation and blurred vision.
These adverse events may be more concerning in elderly patients due to a subsequent increased risk for falls and driving impairment.
The company assured that they have not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall to date.
Sildenafil tablets with lot number 36884 and expiration in March of 2022, and Trazadone tablets with lot number 36783 and expiration in June 2022 are part of the recall.
AvKARE has already notified its distributors and customers and is arranging for return of all recalled product of the listed lots.
