An avid Paralympian enthusiast lost his life, due to medical negligence in a UK hospital.
According to reports, Oliver McGowan passed away at the tender age of 18. The hospital staff administered a psychotropic drug, which led to his death.
Young Oliver McGowan battled with autism as well as epilepsy. However, he never let his disabilities overcome his passion to become a Paralympian. However, faith had other things in store for him. Meanwhile, doctors confirmed how they felt he would soon lead a very normal life.
And that’s when he passed away in his late teens in 2016.On the other hand, his parents worked hard to get justice for their son.
And despite shifting to Newcastle, post Oliver’s death, they fronted Australia’s Commission for disability on Tuesday. Here at the Sydney venue, they explained how the anti-psychotic drug caused a rather ‘catastrophic’ reaction over their son.
In the past, Oliver grew up in a lively and healthy surroundings. He enjoyed training for sports like football.
Moreover, it was his dream to enter the Paralympics and he worked hard to pursue it.Those that knew him were aware of his natural skills and inborn talent. In short, he was a ‘natural leader. ’ At the same time, he also served as a prefect at his school.
After his death, it wasn’t surprising to see a campaign in his name with a website too. Here, they described how neurologists confirmed that Oliver was on the road to recovery. Soon, he would lead a very independent life. And that’s why his sudden demise has his close loved ones in absolute awe.
Oliver suffered partial focus related seizures, which was also a part of his initial diagnosis. And for that reason, doctors admitted to Bristol’s leading Children’s Hospital. Unfortunately, no one knew that one drug would cost him his life. Instead of improving his condition, it actually resulted in his death.
Initially, he received anti-depressants.But soon enough, doctors gave him the ever so deadly Olanzapine.
It was a nightmarish ordeal for the young teen. His parents confirmed how they soon lost their very vibrant son in an instant. One psychiatrist confirmed how Oliver suffered sensitivity to antipsychotic drugs. But meds continued to deliver the so-called ‘poison’ in his scenario.
In the end, he suffered from severe hallucinations as well as 30 seizures in one day. Oliver’s parents were shocked as they’d never seen him in this dire condition. And that’s why they believe the drug is the major cause of his death.
