A man from Florida accused of burglary attempted to flirt with the judge presiding over his case.
The defendant, Demetrius Lewis, appeared before Broward County Judge Tabitha Blackmon on a Zoom hearing on Thursday.
After exchanging a casual greeting, the accused felon proceeds to surprise the judge with words rarely heard in a courtroom.
“Judge, you (are) so gorgeous,” he said. “So gorgeous, judge. I just had to tell you. You’re gorgeous,” he said.
Blackmon smiles briefly and thanked him, but warned him that the compliments would not do anything for the case.
“Thank you, Mr. Lewis,” she answered.
“All right, Mr. Lewis. Flattery will get you everywhere. But maybe not here.”
Lewis allegedly tried to break into a Fort Lauderdale home while a woman and her three children slept inside.
Authorities said that the family “thankfully” had a doorbell camera and was able to stop the break-in.
This is not Lewis’ first altercation with law enforcement.
He was previously jailed for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, in which he was released in 2019 after serving a three-year sentence.
He also served prison time for a drug conviction, and was jailed for another year.
Although Lewis failed to steal Blackmon’s heart, he totally left an impression to social media users.
“What does he have to lose at this point?” said one Twitter user.
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take!” another user joked.
Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Blackmon to Florida’s Seventeenth Judicial Circuit’s County last year.
Prior to her appointment, she served as a prosecutor for the State Attorney’s Office, and as an attorney for the Attorney General’s Office.
