Legendary Actor Sir Ian Holm Passes Away After Long Battle With Parkinson’s Disease


Award-winning actor, Sir Ian Holm has died at age 88, after suffering from Parkinson’s Disease.

The famed personality was known for his stellar performances in movies such as Lord of the Rings and The Alien. 

As news regarding his death broke out, fans and followers started pouring in tributes from across the globe. The actor was regarded for his kind, charming, as well as ferocious talent.

Concurrently, a group of members from the acting community gathered this afternoon, to pay their respects and honor the distinguished celebrity. This included famous stars such as Mia Farrow, Edgar Wright, and Eddie Izzard.

Simultaneously, these members also termed Sir Ian Holm as one of the titans of the acting industry. Hence, they paid their tributes to the star’s wife Sophie de Stempel as well as his five children.

Reports claimed that the legendary actor died ‘peacefully’ at the hospital this morning. He was surrounded by his entire family and carer during that time.

Sir Ian Holm is famous for playing the renowned character, Bilbo Baggins, in one of the cinema’s hit fantasy trilogy. At the same time, he also revived his role for his later appearance in the super hit Hobbit movie series.

While the actor suffered from crippling stage fright, he never let his fear overcome his performances. And this fact was proven when he was cast as King Lear in 1998’s hit theater production. Consequently, the actor also won the coveted Tony award for his memorable performance.

The sad news of his demise was announced in a statement made by his agent today. This left fans, fellow actors and family members shattered to the core.

Other than being an integral part of the cast for the blockbuster film, The Hobbit, Sir Ian is also fondly remembered over the generations as The Fifth Element’s Father Vio Cornelius, The Alien’s Android double agent Ash, and Chariots of Fire’s running coach Sam Mussabini.
