Family court judge Stephen Wildblood gave a sincere apology to the heartbroken father, who he described as an ‘intelligent man who plainly loves his children.’

The judge said that the father had spent eight long years fighting in an expensive and heartbreaking case.

Judge Wildblood also blamed the children’s mother, saying her children would be the ones suffering from long-term harm because of her decisions.

After 8 years of fighting for the right to see his children, the father gave up the fight for contact with them.

Judge Wildblood also said that a psychiatrist involved had suggested that the mother had possibly encouraged or allowed the ‘demonization’ of their father.

He said that the names of the family members couldn’t be identified, even the ages of the children, but noted that the public should be aware about the case.

The judge said it was one of the examples of ‘how badly wrong things can go’ and of how complicates are when a parent alienates children from their other parent.

“No professional has suggested that there is anything about this father that renders him unsuited to have contact with his children,” said Judge Wildblood.

“There have been consistent recommendations throughout the eight-year history of these proceedings from a wide spectrum of professionals that contact should take place between the father and the children.

“All professionals involved in this case have concluded that the mother has alienated the children from the father.”

He said that the children would’ve nothing to do with their dad or his family. They wouldn’t accept presents or cards from him and expressed ‘unjustified and illogical’ complaints.

The children also had ‘false memories’ of how their father had behaved towards them.

“I am afraid that the cause of that harm lies squarely with this mother,” he added. “Whatever may be her difficulties, she is an adult and a parent with parental responsibility for her children.

“That parental responsibility, which she shares with the father, requires her to act in the best interests of her children.

“It also required her to promote the relationship between these children and their father. She has failed to do so.”

Judge Wildblood ended his message to the father, saying: “This has been a long, heart-breaking and expensive set of events for you to endure. I am truly sorry.”
