Kenosha Police Union: “Blake Forcefully Fought With The Offcers”

The Kenosha Police Union shared a detailed account on the officers’ perspective of the incident on Sunday that led to police shooting Jacob Blake in the back seven times.

The officers on the scene argued that Blake had a knife, fought with the officers and had put one of them in a headlock while shrugging off two attempts to stun him.

The statement released by the Kenosha Professional Police Association’s attorney, Brendan Matthews, pictured a more detail account than that of the release made by Wisconsin Department of Justice.

The shooting of Blake on Sunday triggered a series of peaceful protests and violence, which led to the death of two people by an armed civilian on Tuesday.

On Friday, Wisconsin Justice Department Attorney General Josh Kaul said in a statement that the agency is conducting an impartial investigation.

Meanwhile, Blake’s attorney Benjamin Crump did not immediately respond when asked for a comment, but he said earlier this week that Blake did not do anything to provoke the police and was only trying to break up a domestic dispute.

However, Matthews contradict Crump’s claim and said that the officers were dispatched because of a complaint that Blake was attempting to steal the caller’s keys and vehicle.

The officers are also aware that Blake had an open warrant for felony sexual assault.

“The officers first saw him holding the knife while they were on the passenger side of the vehicle,” said Matthews.

“Based on the inability to gain compliance and control after using verbal, physical and less-lethal means, the officers drew their firearms,” Matthews added.

“Mr. Blake continued to ignore the officers’ commands, even with the threat of lethal force now present.”

Raysean White, a 22-year-old bystander who recorded the shooting said that he saw Blake scuffling with three officers and heard them yell, “Drop the knife! Drop the knife!,” yet he did not see Blake having one on hand.
