Animal lovers in the UK are preparing to celebrate as a new rule effectively lifts the animal blanket ban issued by landlords.
According to media reports, the new regulation bans all landlords from their refusal to allow their tenants from keeping pets. As mentioned in a statement declared by the Ministry of Housing, Communities, & Local Government- this new law brings forward an innovative tenancy agreement template. It clearly states no blanket ban on pets without any good reason.
However, the new law did mention how those landlords who aren’t keen on having tenants with pets will need to mention the following the clause in formal writing, within the 28 day time frame that a tenant requests to have a pet.
In addition, the law mentioned that in case of denying the request, a valid reason must be mentioned or else it would not be termed applicable. One example would be due to a lack of space in the house.

On that note, the UK’s Housing Minister talked about how the country is one that loves animals and ever since the last year, there has been a great increase in citizens welcoming pets into their homes.point 172 | 1
He also claimed that it wasn’t right ethically to have such a tiny fraction of the landlord population advertising pet friendly properties. Moreover, in some circumstances, people had to give up their beautiful animals, just so they could find a decent place to live.
“We are now bringing a permanent end to the unfair pet blanket ban that was once introduced by a few landlords,” he added.
With that being said, tenants will still be responsible for all of their animals. Therefore, that means covering up for all damages to property, if any, caused by their furry beings.
