George Floyd’s death rocked the nation when the 46-year-old Black man passed away, right after a cop from Minneapolis knelt on his neck. Despite Floyd’s outcry for help and continuous mentions of how he couldn’t breathe, the officer didn’t let go. And that ultimately resulted in his brutal death.

Local news outlets in Houston announced how Harris County Commissioner and Houston’s Society for Change, alongside another non-profit organization that comprised of Floyd’s football teammates, worked towards commissioning the mega project.

On the other hand, leading officials took out some spare time to speak on Floyd and what an exemplary character he was for many. Davis referred to him as a guiding light in the entire community, and that’s why he instructed officials to place the mural right in the front of the high school.
