She displayed immense bravery after pulling out three newborns alive from a battered hospital. The health institution was severely hit by the recent wave of blasts in the city’s port area.

The journalist followed the smoky trail, claiming that his ‘professional intuition’ led him towards the battered Al Roum Hospital, situated in the city’s Ashrafieh district.point 167 | The area and its surroundings were left in devastation by the huge blast.point 228 | 1

But the journalist explains that what he witnessed was rather remarkable and heartwrenching. “I was shocked when I witnessed the nurse carrying three newborns,” said Bilal. Above all, he noticed how calm the nurse was amidst the chaotic surrounding, located just one meter away from the blast’s site.

Similarly, he couldn’t digest the fact relating to the nurse’s calm and composed behavior, despite so many dead and injured patients, laying down nearby.

“The nurse appeared like she had some hidden force that gave her self-control, alongside the ability to save those children. While people prefer to stand out in gloomy and violent times like these, this nurse was up to the task,” he explained.

The nurse was carrying out her daily duties at the maternity ward when the blast took place. As a result, she was temporarily knocked unconscious. When she workup, she saw the disaster in front of her eyes and had to play her part.

However, not everyone at the hospital was as lucky. The hospital’s emergency and disaster in charge told CNN Arabic that more than 12 patients, four nurses, and two visitors were killed in yesterday’s incident. Similarly, the hospital suffered more than 80% damage with around 50% loss to its equipment.

The newborn babies with their mothers were transferred to other nearby hospitals for appropriate medical care. As far as the mysterious blast is concerned, it’s still not confirmed what really led to the huge explosions that almost wiped out major streets across the Lebanese capital.
