A female police officer was recently punished by the New York Police Department for flaunting a politically themed badge on duty.
According to media reports, the cop was called out by the NYPD for donning a politically oriented patch that screamed pro-trump from miles away. The patch was like a calling to the Pro-Trump ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan. But the fact that the cop wore the patch while performing her duties was beyond believable.
Moreover, the video of the shocking incident took the center stage one day after the incident took place. The sergeant’s patch comprised of a ‘Trump Make Enforcement Great Again 2020’ patch while she stood at a protest in Brooklyn recently.
Reports confirmed how the officer was spotted standing near a Black Lives Matter protest on Friday, which was situated just outside the vicinity in Ft. Greene. The patch clearly aimed to target Donald Trump’s campaign’s famous slogan. The video was posted on various online forums from the event shows.
The actual patch comprised of the famous skull emblem that arises from Marvel Comics’ renowned character, The Punisher. It was also reportedly tweaked in such a way that it looked to sport a Trump-themed coif too.
Media agencies claimed that the Sergeants Benevolent Association’s Twitter account identified the officer as Dana Martillo. They claimed that was caught donning the second patch that featured the famous Punisher skull.
Currently, there are no other details from the event. However, authorities did mention how a thorough investigation regarding the case was in place. Meanwhile, the NYPD confirmed how Martillo received an initial discipline while authorities conducted their investigations into the sensitive matter.
On the other hand, the commissioner on Saturday afternoon tweeted how ‘Members of the NYPD should remain apolitical at all times.’ After all, the public should feel like they can trust officers’ ability to perform their jobs.
Other than that, the incident did garner plenty of attention on social media too. Some questioned where the officers’ bosses were at that moment to allow such an incident to take place in the first place. Another furious viewer mentioned that the officer deserved to go after putting up such a public display of political views.
