Derek Chauvin finalized his divorce with his wife recently, which took place under secret terms.
The shocking news comes after months of deliberations where the judge first rejected the application in October. However, news just broke out on how the judge following the case has finally approved the decision under seal.
The divorce is under great scrutiny as it was first rejected due to speculations relating to how the couple was actually trying to safeguard their funds relating to the lawsuit.
In the same way, news reports mentioned how each member of the couple also faces up to 9 counts of charges relating to tax evasion, while facing a trial too.
Other than that, the news comes at a time when prosecutors from Minnesota requested the judge to reinstate their counts of a third-degree murder charge against Derek Chauvin.
Derek Chauvin will face his trial in March on the account of a second-degree murder charge as well as one count for manslaughter.
Washington county’s district judge issued the divorce settlement under covers last Tuesday, with reports mentioning how a ‘redacted’ version was made available for public scrutiny.
On the other hand, news outlets also reported how the judge, Juanita Freeman, ordered a redaction in the case due to harassment as well as financial fraud allegations that came against the pair.
In the court of law, unless a judge approves parties’ request for a seal that’s related to documents, most divorces usually end up on public record.
As far as this case is concerned, Kellie Chauvin filed for divorce against her husband, just two days after he was slapped with charges for killing George Floyd. The shocking incident which shook the world took place on May 25th when George Floyd was murdering after the Minnesota officer knelt down on Floyd’s neck.
The entire incident was captured via shocking bodycam footage, reverberating around the world in the year 2020.
