Canadian Prime Minister’s Wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau Tested Positive For Coronavirus

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, is placed on isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, she is feeling well but shows mild symptoms, thus she will remain in isolation for 14 days.

Canadian health officials will reach out to those who had been in contact with her and possibly have them tested as well.

The Prime Minister’s wife thanked those who reached out to her, and said, “Although I’m experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of the virus, I will be back on my feet soon.”

She added, “Being in quarantine at home is nothing compared to other Canadian families who might be going through this and for those facing more serious health concerns.”

In a statement, the PM office announced that “The Prime Minister is in good health with no symptoms. As a precautionary measure and following the advice of doctors, he will be in isolation for a planned period of 14 days.”

“Also on the advice of doctors, he will not be tested at this stage since he has no symptoms. For the same reason, doctors say there is no risk to those who have been in contact with him recently.”

Last week, the Prime Minister spoke in front of roughly 23,000 attendees at a major mining conference in Toronto, wherein at least one of the participants has tested positive for the virus.

His meeting with provincial and territorial premiers will be postponed due to the evolving coronavirus situation across Canada.

Meanwhile, Ontario closed its schools and suspended jury trials, while British Columbia warned citizens against foreign travel, and several provinces banned large gatherings.

Federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu called the virus, “an unprecedented public health crisis.”

Hajdu urged Canadians to stay at home to help stop the spread of the dreaded disease.

Social distancing measures are strongly advised by public health experts, and it aims to reduce contact with others and slow the spread of the transmission.

They are hoping that these measures will avoid the spike of coronavirus cases and the possibility of the health system to be overwhelmed.
