Imagine yourself yearning for something for a couple of decades, and then losing the chance of attaining it despite being so close.

It can make you fall to pieces, right?

Something similar happened to one of the inmates who served 44 in imprisonment and ended up in a graveyard. William Garrison had been craving freedom to roam around on the streets unrestricted and unconfined, and it proved to be a wet dream for him as he lost his life to coronavirus.

William was a 60-year-old man and he served 44 years in Michigan jail, and he was this close to his freedom when things went ugly. He was only 24 days away from release when he went the way of all flesh. He died with a desire in his heart to see life anew.

It’s really unfortunate that he was not even diagnosed for coronavirus in the first place. One day, his fellow inmate saw him struggling for breath and that’s when he was taken to the hospital for the first time. Sadly, he couldn’t survive and drew his last breath on a hospital bed.

It’s a huge negligence on the part of jail authorities that they didn’t get their subjects tested. In a postmortem report, it got revealed that he had the virus operating inside him which gulped down his life. His cause of death was nothing else but the infamous COVID-19.

As far as his history is concerned, he was detained for murdering a man during a burglary in 1976. Just because he had a deep sense of compunction, his lifetime imprisonment was reduced to 44 years.

William Garrison was offered a parole last year but he refused to take the obligation, and preferred to complete his sentence of 44 years and walk out a free man. He perhaps wanted to be free of the guilt that he had been carrying with him for years.
