China’s Richest Man To Donate 1.8M Face Masks and 100K Test Kits To Europe


China’s Richest Man announced that he is to donate 1.

8 million facemasks and 100,000 coronavirus test kits to European countries to help contain the pandemic.

Jack Ma, the founder of e-commerce company Alibaba, made his announcement on Chinese social media site Weibo.

Ma said that he aims to send the masks and kits to countries that have been badly hit by the deadly virus, which includes Italy and Spain.

The 55-year-old tycoon said, “Fortunately, although cross-country transport for counter-epidemic goods has been difficult, we learned that the eWTP (The Electronic World Trade Platform) hub in Europe’s Liege Airport is operating well and can act as a lifeline to assist us to deliver our continuous aids to Europe to those in need.”

“Although we live thousands of miles apart, we will race against the clock in hopes of providing emergency help to [the countries in need] and overcoming difficulties together,” he added.

This is not the first time Ma dipped his hands in his pocket to help the fight against COVID-19.

Earlier this month, he donated 1 million masks to Japan and South Korea respectively through The Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation.

He said that his aid to Japan is his way of returning the favor for the generous help Japan gave China when the virus initially hit the country.

Ma cited an old Chinese poem through his Weibo account, referring to his aid to Japan, “Like the mountain range that stretches before you and me, let’s share the same trials and hardships together. We hope everything will get better soon.”

He is not the only billionaire philanthropist who extended their help to fight the disease.

Collectively, Jack Ma, Bill Gates, and Hong Kong’s richest man Li Ka-Shing pledged over $100 billion help alleviate the pandemic.
