Rolling Stone writer draws controversy as she makes her point to cancel Law and Order: SVU because Olivia Benson is a “quintessential Good Cop” character.

EJ Dickson wrote in her piece that Captain Benson is the “patron saint of liberal women”, that it “marked contrast to real-life law enforcement officials.”

“Olivia Benson won’t change, not fundamentally, because nobody wants Olivia Benson to change,” she argued.

“We’re probably not going to see her making an effort to hire more police officers of color. We’re probably not going to see George Floyd incorporated into plotlines in anything but a cursory, ripped-from-the-headlines way.”

She calls how Olivia Benson, “the embodiment of all of the qualities we wish law enforcement figures would have: she’s tough but fair, vulnerable yet steely-eyed, displaying constant compassion for survivors and providing no quarter to abusers.”

The show have come under scrutiny after the Black Lives Matter movement took the country by storm, calling police reforms after a cop-related incident killed Floyd on Memorial Day.

The movement aims to end the systematic racism, which led to the cancellation of two popular polive programs Cops and LivePD, and influenced the removal of classic films such as Gone With The Wind, for their portrayal of African Americans.

Her article prompted fans of the police drama to react negatively to her message.

Twitter user “No One” wrote, “Law and order SVU canceled because Olivia Benson’s character portrays a ‘hero’! This is ridiculous! Why is the left winning?”

Jefferson Starshein, who goes under the handle @Doubleh55 wrote, “This guy has never watched a single episode.”

One Twitter user who goes by the handle @No_Behaviour made his point by posting, “Goddamn this article was tone deaf. Cancel culture is becoming a cancer, the likes of which that at any given moment someone can draw together an irrelevant conclusion for the sake of saying something. The BLM movement doesn’t care about Olivia Benson.”
