And that’s because he was declared morbidly obese or simply put, too fat for jail.

Yes, this pedophile teacher isn’t going anywhere, at least for the time being. And that’s because locking him up at a Tasmanian Jail would cost around $40,000, just for transportation. Therefore, he won’t be spending even a single night in jail.

61-year-old Peter John O’Neill is currently under house arrest, at his home in Canberra. As he currently waits for his sentence, he must stay under lock-up at his residence. And that means sticking to a wheelchair, and a full-time caretaker too. For this reason, he was deemed unfit to undergo any travel by the court.

Alan Bow, the chief justice for the case, explained at a previous hearing how his hands were tied. Moreover, he’s limited with his decision making on the pedophile teacher’s case because he’s got no choice. There’s simply no way to go about the situation other than a very limited jail sentence.

Likewise, there is no point in putting the 61-year-old under home detention because he can’t leave his home anyways. O’Neill is guilty of six accounts of sexual abuse. This includes indecent assault and penetrative sexual abuse too of a young adolescent. Furthermore, his sentence is due on August 25.

According to the defense side’s lawyer, one medical charter plane for transporting the teacher could cost between $25,000 to $40,000. Now that’s a hefty price tag by all means.
