The mayor made a series of controversial posts on social media where he called out residents for displayed lazy behavior when it came to the countless complaints that came from all over.

Colorado City’s mayor Tom Boyd then abruptly announced his resignation on Tuesday, just hours after severe backlash surrounded his words and bizarre statements. News reports confirmed how the posts came in the form of a long rant through his Facebook account.

Some examples of the statements made by Tom Boyd included, “No one owes you or your family anything. At the same time, it is not the local government’s responsibility for supporting you during such trying times. You can either sink or swim- the choice is yours,” he wrote.

In addition, he reiterated how the county or the city did not owe any citizen anything, neither do the power providers or any other service provider owe anyone anything.

Boyd explained how the citizens from Texas need to learn how to deal with matters outside of the box. For instance, he gave examples of how citizens should think about survival, keeping regular means aside. “If you don’t have water, you deal without it.”

The former mayor called citizens lazy for sitting and waiting at home for a miracle to come. “If you’re sitting in freezing temperatures due to the major power outages and hope for someone to come and rescue you, you’re just plain lazy and it’s a result of your raising.”

“I am damned if I provide water or electricity to anyone that can provide for themselves,” he exclaimed too. And just like that, the bizarrely bold statements kept on coming in. He concluded the major rant with how people need to stop whining and crying and searching for an easy way out or a handout.
