A trio comprising of 3 men made legal history in the US recently when the court allowed them to be named on their children’s birth certificates.
News reports confirmed how Ian Jenkins, Jeremy Allen, and Alan Mayfield came up with the idea of using donated embryos as well as surrogates to bring their child into the world. Today, they’re celebrating for a couple of reasons. First for welcoming their son and daughter, Parker and Piper. And next, for making legal history in the US.
According to news outlets, the trio made legal history in the year 2017 when a judge enabled them all to feature on their baby Piper’s birth certificate. This was a huge milestone for all polyamorous families that would gain recognition in America.
But how did the idea of forming a throuple and then seeking children arise in the first place? Well, Ian who is a doctor told the Huff Post how one of Jeremy’s buddies offered them his embryos that he had left from creating a family through the means of IVF.point 330 |
Due to some reasons, he couldn’t carry forward his family planning and hence the embryos remained unused.point 95 | 1
“We had the wonderful option to adopt the embryos and then make the decision to raise our beautiful and unique family.”
The throuple also mentioned how they knew that their kids would be looked upon differently. They certainly didn’t want them to grow up being a big target for teasing as well as online abuse or bullying of some sort. “We’ve had zero pushback from anyone in our professional as well as personal lives,” they claim.
Without a doubt, the biggest challenge comprised legal battles. And that was a major hindrance at first as the restrictions imposed prevented them from creating their family via surrogacy.
