Outrage sparks in the United States before President-elect, Joe Biden’s inauguration.
According to media sources, citizens expressed their dismay over the recent federal executions. Moreover, the anger continues to grow, right after Friday’s events. And that’s when news broke out regarding the death of two black men. They died after receiving lethal injections, within a 24-hour timeframe.
News agencies reported how Alfred Bourgeois died via execution, just the day after news broke out on Brandon Bernard’s execution.
At the same time, plenty of celebrities went public in voicing their opinion about Bernard’s death sentence.This involved a series of criticism, where high profile names fought till the very end.
Despite their grave attempts, no one could stop his execution.
On the other hand, Bernard’s case soon turned into a public matter, right after advocates expressed important points. These related to how his case highlighted a series of critical issues, right within the US justice system.
These cases were also amongst those last in line, scheduled towards the end of Donald Trump’s administration. Both Bernard as well as Bourgeois were a part of the two of four Black men, lined up to die via lethal injections. The news breaks out shockingly, towards the end of the President’s final days of office.
Bourgeois’ case is the 10th in terms of execution, ever since Attorney General, William Barr, revealed the revival for capital punishment for all death row inmates. Moreover, this decision wasn’t appreciated by many. In fact, it was a matter criticized and surrounded by a lot of controversies too.
With that said, the US Department of Justice took out time to defend its decision.And that’s when they explained how they originally intended to resume the executions in 2019.
However, due to the process of litigation, it was temporarily suspended.Ever since the Supreme Court gave the green light for resumption of the executions, they proceeded every month. The only exception was in October 2020.
