Star actor and famous voice-over artist, Harry Shearer, will no longer lend his voice for a Black Simpsons character.
The white actor shocked many with his abrupt decision of refusing to voice a Simpsons character of color. This isn’t the first time that the show has come under fire in terms of race and color issues.
Previously, the show announced how it would no longer use white actors to voice non-white characters. And now hearing that Harry Shearer will no longer represent Dr. Hibbert on the hit show is raising plenty of eyebrows.
According to local media reports, Harry Shearer refused to lend his vocals for the show, despite representing Dr. Hibbert for a while. Now, the show’s officials announced how he will be replaced by Keven Michael Richardson from ‘Bless the Harts’ in next week’s episode titled, ‘Wad Goals.’
Harry Shearer is the latest actor to join Azaria. He also announced last year how he would no longer be a part of the show, lending his voice to one of the series’ Indian characters called Apu.
The controversial decision came after the release of a 2017 documentary titled, “The problem with Apu.” And that was where it brought to attention the anticipated subject.
However, Azaria continues to voice a wide array of other characters on the mega-hit show. Prominent examples include Moe and Chief Wiggum.
With that being said, it must be noted that the Simpsons isn’t the only show to address such a topic in recent times.
It all began after the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement that took place during the summer of last year, right after George Floyd’s death. And that was when a famous actor of the ‘Family Guy,’ Mike Henry, announced to fans that he planned on stepping down as the black character from the series named Cleveland.
Since that time, Arif Zahir took over that particular role.
