53-year-old homeless man rescued all the animals from the fire at the Atlanta animal shelter.
On December 18, Keith Walker was passing by the Atlanta animal shelter when he noticed that a fire had broken out in their kitchen. He risked his life and rushed inside to bring the pets out of the smoldering shelter. He is being hailed as a hero on the internet, and everyone has kind words to say about the courageous man.
Keith Walker said he was afraid to go inside, but eventually, he gathered the courage to do so. He thinks God sent him to save those animals. There were 16 animals in total, ten cats and six dogs, and Walker succeeded in protecting all of them.
“I’ll be honest.I was reluctant and afraid to step in due to the billowing smoke. I was nervous as hell,” Walker said in a conversation with CNN. He was there to pick his dog Bravo from W-Underdogs when the incident took place.
Walker has some crazy love for dogs, and his dog is his best friend, so he knows the worth of their lives.“I can’t live without my dog. I know what it feels like, so I knew I had to save all the animals trapped inside,” he added.
Walker is homeless since the age of 13; he jumped to rescue the animals when even firefighters were not ready to go inside, and they were waiting for animal control to come and save the trapped animals. Walker didn’t hesitate going inside the burning building and stayed there until he pulled all the dogs and cats.
The building has been fully destroyed, and the animals have been temporarily shifted to a new facility.
Hamlin, the building owner, said, “I let Walker keep his dog at my shelter every night.I didn’t know one day he will save all my animals. ” Hamlin is indebted to Walker and posted a picture with him and wrote a lengthy caption calling him his hero.
Everyone is impressed with Walker’s heroic action, and more than $27000 have been collected since a GoFundMe page has been set up for him. He deserves all the appreciation in the world for saving animals’ life by putting his own life in danger.
