President-elect announced that his inauguration ceremony wouldn’t have an assembly of million supporters celebrating the victory.
Unlike Trump’s inauguration event, we expect to see a scaled-back inauguration by Joe Biden due to Covid-19 restrictions. President-elect shared his plans regarding the inauguration ceremony in an online meeting on Friday, Dec 4. He said he would sworn-in at the Capitol as per the tradition, and unlike all the previous years, he won’t gather a huge crowd and is looking for a ‘virtual party convention.’
Biden announced the scaled-back inauguration plan as the covid-19 cases continue to increase, and public safety is his first consideration.
Although we have witnessed inauguration events with a lesser number of audience before, this will probably be the first time in US history that a swearing-in ceremony will occur in the absence of a crowd.
President-elect said so many people are thinking and asking how the 2021 inauguration would look like; he is not yet sure how it will be. However, he confirmed that there would be no crowd due to the pandemic. He also said his team is in contact with the congressional leaders, and they are discussing their plans for the inauguration.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be held at Capitol, and President and Vice President will have lunch there.
Nobody is yet sure whether the conceding President will honor the ceremony or not as Trump has refused to accept Biden’s victory.
The absence of Trump will put a question mark on a peaceful transition of power and might undermine Biden’s legitimacy.Still, Biden said he doesn’t care much that Trump will attend his inaugural ceremony or not.
The details are not revealed yet, and the plans are still under process.
However, at this stage, we can predict that we might not see the gigantic inaugural parades.
The restricted crowd will make the event look different from previous events. As Trump has not given a statement, so we are not also sure if the traditional tea for the outgoing and incoming President’s family at the White House will occur or not.If not, then this would be another difference.
