Shocking images from Pennsylvania’s interstate 80 showed a massive disaster due to the deadly winter storm Gail.
Reports confirmed how a dozen tractor-trailers went out of control, skidding upon the slippery interstate 80. The event took place on Wednesday at 3 pm, in one of the state’s deadliest winter storms.
Meanwhile, news agencies confirmed how one person suffered massive injuries and was killed. Also, the tragic incident injured numerous other individuals.
During the massive 66-vehicle pileup episode, a total of 55 trucks, alongside 11 passenger vehicles went out of control over the snow-covered highway. The entire affected region spanned across a mile, located upon Clinton County’s westbound side.
State police confirmed how the stretch remained closed throughout Thursday in the afternoon. Throughout this time, contractors did their level best at trying to clear away the vehicles.
In addition to all the damage that took place, another passenger also passed away during the tragic incident, due to a medical problem. However, authorities confirmed how it wasn’t related to the crash in any way.
The fatality from this pileup incident was a part of one of the five lives lost during this year’s massive Winter Storm Gail. Moreover, this is the season’s first snowstorm. And records show how the storm managed to dump more snow in all of New York City than all of last year, as a whole.
On the other hand, another fatality took place just outside the area of Pittsburgh. Here, a giant plow rammed into a man at about 4:45 pm. He was reportedly walking with a snowblower when the incident took place. Local reporters from CBS station confirmed the heartbreaking news recently.
Other than that, two other deaths took place in the state of New York. They were also reportedly connected to the storm as mentioned by state governor Cuomo. However, he failed to provide more details regarding the incident.
On Tuesday, Kansas police reported another fatal crash, during which one person lost their life, while another two were injured.
