David Dorn, a 77-year old police officer who served the local police station for 38 years, was shot as he was protecting his friend’s jewelry and pawnshop at Martin Luther King Drive, St Louis.
According to his wife, Marie Dorn, David used to keep an eye on his friend’s shop on and off whenever the alarms went off and this was one of those occasions. In a video circulating on Twitter, a man can be seen approaching Dorn, who is lying there in the pool of his blood, begging him to stay alive.
A lot of people are reacting to this tragic and unjust incident on social media and people are saying watching this video makes them sick to their stomach. A lot of reports were made on the night of theft and lootings.
The police department has given their official statement and confirmed the death of David Dorn in a press conference on Tuesday. John Hayeden, the Chief of police at Saint Louis, stated that around 55 businesses including the pawn and jewelry shop reported for property damage on the same night David Dorn was killed.
Speaking of David he said, the man was only exercising law enforcement skills he learned at the police service and we are mourning for him. President Donald Trump has also tweeted on the issue saying the whole country is mourning over the loss of such a great police officer.
The police have not found the people to be blamed for this brutal act that happened in the wake of George Floyd’s murder by the hands of a white police officer. The entire country has gone to great social unrest as the majority of states enforced curfew to avoid more chaos and upsetting events.
