Variety reported a column by the iconic singer on Super Tuesday, when millions took to the Democratic primary polls.
Barbra Streisand published a controversial op-ed criticizing Donald Trump and his administration while blaming the president ‘ at the foundations of our society ‘ for taking swipes.
Streisand who is Trump’s vocal critic-opens her op-ed by saying America’s ‘ was great before ‘ he was elected to the presidency in 2016.
She said, ‘ I wake up every morning, holding my breath while turning on my phone to see the latest news, ‘ writes the Funny Girl star. ‘ I think to myself, ‘ It can’t be worse than yesterday ‘ but as the news loads, I think, ‘ Ohhhhh, yeah, it’s worse. ”
Streisand blames Trump as he dismissed National Security Director Joseph Maguire in mid-February, which she says was ‘ an effort to undermine the facts that Russia is once again going to intervene in US elections’.
Trump denied allegations that Maguire had been abandoned after a subordinate provided a report on Russian meddling in the 2020 election.
Streisand is shifting focus briefly and criticizing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for obstructing 10 bills on election protection. Instead, she turns her wrath back to Trump.
She lashed out on Trump which was evident in her words, We have been pulled down into the mud of the Trump swamp since 2016. His ridiculous boasts and shocking arrogance have destroyed our standing in the world.
He put this country’s security, and our world, in a precarious position by abandoning the Paris Climate Agreement and the nuclear deal with Iran. He’s a one-man mass destruction machine, So irresponsible he’d have started a fight.’
She proceeds to discuss her problems with Trump’s coronavirus treatment, mentioning that the president got rid of Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer-Head of Global Health Security at the National Security Council of the White House-in 2018.
Streisand also grips that Trump ‘ defended the Disease Control Centers as he continues to ignore science.’ She adds:’ This is not how we can proceed. It’s too risky.’ Streisand argues that Trump is behaving as if he is a dictator who wants people to pledge allegiance to him.
The actor states that Trump lives a life of ‘ paranoia, deceit, and misinformation, so many lies (16,000 and counting). ‘ She claims that although expressing support for pre-existing people and getting clean water and air, Trump policies work directly against them.
Streisand reveals that Trump once talked of never leaving the White House to play golf but now spends millions to go and play on Air Force One from and to his resorts. The icon states that Obama took cars to a neighboring naval base to play golf, but never paid Secret Service rates for using carts, which Trump did.
In addition, under Obama, the GDP, employment growth and the S&P 500 all rose faster. While Trump, with his corporate tax cuts and the very rich, has basically doubled the budget deficit to more than $1 trillion — unexpected in a prosperous time.
And he was on track to add another 50 per cent to the national debt, history’s fastest dollar increase.’
Streisand emphasizes the need to bring back’ dignity’ and’ grace’ into the process, she was of the view that ‘ We have to concern ourselves with the truth, the world, each other and the least privileged among us.
We need to have a new America, no noise, no obscenities, no threats and no vengeance. We need to preserve the dignity of reality… and only then will America again become great.’
