Legendary actor and comedian Dick Van Dyke endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders for the 2020 presidential election.
Van Dyke 94, urged his generation to support the senator in the video promotion released by the Sanders campaign on Friday.
“I can’t wait to see Bernie debate Mr. Trump,” he said in the endorsement video.
Van Dyke said that he was not concerned about Sanders’ possible performance as president.
He pointed out how he is 20 years older than Sanders, and he “could run for office if I wanted to.”
The Mary Poppins actor pointed out that “somebody younger like Bernie is just the perfect candidate.”
He added that he could not quite figure out why the senator is having a hard time getting the older generation’s support.
“Why wouldn’t an older citizen vote for somebody with that kind of a record and with that kind of experience and honesty and trust?” He asked in the video.
To him, Sanders’ age does not matter except for his experience and years of service.
“I want to urge my generation to get out and vote for him — please.”
The actor called the upcoming election the “most important” since the end of World War II.
He warned that another four years of the current administration and “we won’t have a democracy anymore.”
The actor continued to criticize the current administration, stating, “Four more years of no concern about the climate. We must get him out of there.”
“He has assumed authority beyond what the president is allowed and he’s going to get worse,” he added.
Lastly, he concluded “Bernie has been consistent with his policies ever since I first met him when he was in the Senate.”
Sanders may have been dominating national polls but is still struggling with the older voters.
